Keeping your programs safe"r" from Hackers
Solution To make sure your site is less likely to be hacked, remember to check the version of your installed CGI and PHP programs with the latest install version at that items main web site.

All of the programs that are in the cpanel are freeware software. With freeware, there is a link to the creators website, usually on the bottom of every page. Clicking this link will take you to their site so you can check to see if there are newer versions available.

Upgrade them often to avoid being hacked by a security hole that was found and patched in the newer versions.

Most of the software that is installable through your control panel is supported at the creators website via a support/ users forum. Many of these are a great place to go when setting them up when you have questions.

We do not support the scripts, as there are too many of them for us to learn the ins and outs of them all. Our job is to make sure the sites and servers are up and running as smoothly as possible. The user forums is your way to receive help on each programs particulars.

Remember, keeping your programs up to date will help keep your site from being hacked.

Also, if you install a program to test, and decide not to use it... don't forget to remove it. An old version of something you forgot was sitting there can leave your site, and the web server open to attack by hackers with nothing better to do. This goes for carts, forums, email list programs, etc... over time, they will all become open doors to hackers if not kept up to date.
